Android SAMBA Server

Postby Diego » January 29th, 2011, 4:22 pm

I looked it up, as I wanted to be able to browse my tablet from my PC without connecting the USB, and found that there is Samba for Android. So far as I can see it only shares /sdcard/, but at least it gets me on.

Maybe someone can find a way to get it to share / (root directory)

Anyhow, it's here SambaFilesharing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpos ... tcount=128

BTW: nice feature - enables and disables on WiFi access :¬)

I've talked with the developer and he will be adding user definable directories to share.

Note for those not understanding: this gives you access to the scroll through WiFi without need of external programs like Dropbox, Sorami, etc. When your WiFi is connected, your scroll joins your local network. You can map the drive just as any other drive on the network.

Hello people new poster here.

I'm loving my scroll so much. I have a cyclone MKV media player and am able to access all my movies on my scroll and vica versa with viewing movies stored on my scroll on my media player (hope that makes sense).

I'm using imediashare to send videos to my media player via UPNP from the scroll which is so easy to use. Great for seeing all your photos etc on the TV along with Youtube etc as well.

Then when I want to watch movies from the media player on the scroll i'm using File Expert and using the Samba funtction. File expert asks you to open the .avi (or chosen file type) in a browser (I use Miren) and then Miren picks up on the file type and automatically sends it to rock player lite.

Some times there is slow down or sound sync issues but if the file type is converted just right it works soo well.

Now I have all my movies on any TV in the house thanks to the HDMI out and if needs be I can do the same on my Hero!

@Diego I see that the latest build gives access to the removable sd card, have you tried it?
