Is the Scroll really worth it

Postby ajm398 » January 18th, 2011, 10:09 am

Hello,

I have already brought a scroll, and what a load of rubbish............can't download using market, other apps which are like market are rubbish......the touch screen is rubbish.....wi-fi thats probably the only thing they have got right, since when do you have to download an app to tell you how much battery you have left where even a basic £10 phone will give you a clear indication.......

overall very disappointed

erm most android phones use the same battery indicator.
The screen is actually decent for £130 if you want a capasative one spend £100 more.
The market is a hack and SO no longer support it if their resellers have no updated their sites its harly their fault :S

I dont really know what you were expecting for £130...

If you apply the mods recommended in this forum you'll find that your Scroll performs better and has a much longer battery life.

We should soon be able to install Android 2.2 on it which will give another performance boost and fix many of the shortcomings of Android 2.1.

You can't realistically expect the Scroll to perform quite as well as the Galaxy Tab or iPad which cost four times as much.

It's horses for courses I'm afraid. If you want the best responsive screen and most compatible device then spend the extra 350-400 quid, I'm sure there will still be somethings that need improving. The fact that the market works then stops is an annoyance, but not insurmountable. Especially with the help of this friendly forum who will help find things you need if you can't find it yourself.

Android is a great OS, but is still immature and developing. I may consider spending more on a tablet in a few years when the more expensive ones have a chance of just working properly all the time. But to be honest I enjoy a bit of hacking and messing around with it, and would certainly not want to risk bricking a 5-600 pound device.

For my money the scroll is a great device and I haven't touched my ipod touch since I bought it, and that's what I wanted the scroll for with the bigger screen.

Ditto.Having done quite a lot of pre-purchase research, the Scroll represents vg value for money.

im happy with my performance when you calibrate the screen touch the markers lightly i found best like my lg ku9oo phone, the apps are rather good if you look for the right ones and for **** sake you get lots for free thanks to the developers and so forth. market android is stated in the scroll instructions on there web site that basically it wont work but give you good info where to go and get them.

in defence .. weve got a £50 dvd player here that cant play my 720p HD camcorder movies !! we had to spend another £130 on a blueray player .. so we could watch them. also i had to faff about some on the laptop to view them .. & 1080 runs a bit jerky.
we purchased this Scroll device a day ago and i stuck a 720p HD movie on a SD card and it played with no messing. the audio is fab and it goes online. hells bells ... our old i-river with 20g hard disk cost twice this price in the day ... cant play videos ... got a mono screen 2x2ins ... and no inter thing. crikey.
how can anyone not find this scroll interesting at least. we had to pry it out of my sons hands tonite. he wants one now. hes a phone gadget person unlike us ... yet he said its got a nice clear display (we agree). i guess ill have to get him one next !!!
i know its not perfect. the scroller when surfing is probably the weakest part about it in our opinion. its not as easy to get moving like the one on our phone. its not a laptop nor a i-pad .. something in between. i guess it will be nice to use if youve got your feet up .. unlike having a hot laptop burning your leg off. the wi-fi seems to work well too.
yes im hooked. neat. :D
if i knew what was better ... id know what was worse

Worth it ? What,a sub - £150 device that has a few quirks, what do people expect, the connectivity of Lan ?, the speed of quad ?, a battery life of 5yrs before recharge?, Cinematic quality, Dolby surround sound etc etc. THIS IS A KNEE TOP , in the pocket gadget that says two fingers to your rotten Apple.
Its a bit like having a relative who misbehaves , but its family and you love them... Power to the Scroll !!

Was looking at the archos 10" tablet in toy'r'us at weekend for £150... no 3D GPU, slower CPU.. android 2.1 (I know we're only in beta with 2.2 on our lovely scrolls)... had a damn good sniff of the box and put it back ashamed that I'd even picked it up.
