Yeah, hopefully we will get a proper fix soon.
In the meantime, as long as they are free apps, use google to find them, stick then on the SD card, and install from there.
Also, try androidgear.com for apps.

I think my Scroll excel is 1.02 because I couldn't get the recovery to boot or flash clockwork mod.
However, here's what times says. Bought from ebuyer the week after Christmas.
I'm pretty disappointed I can't get recovery mode on my tablet when people who paid the same price for the same tablet get the recovery feature.

The scroll excell should be running 2.3 as stated on the SO website. If its running anything else, send it back for a replacement. I wouldn't accept any spec' lower than advertised.
