Upgrading to Android OS 2.2

OK, so many people have asked if the Scroll can be upgraded to Android 2.2, and the short answer is YES, but not officially. Storage Options do not recommend it (they say 2.1 is more stable and flexible) and when I asked them if they would do it for me if I paid them, they declined. However, they told me it CAN be done but doing so will invalidate it's warranty and they will not offer advice on how to do it or support it.
Here's a quote from Storage Options:
"It is technically possible to upgrade the Android OS. You can do this by having the OS on an SD card and booting from this. I must advise you that any attempts by users to update the Scrolls OS will invalidate the warranty and we will no longer be able to support this device."
So, if anyone reading this knows how to do this, or has done this, please share your experiences, perhaps explain step by step for everyone how to do it IF that's what they wish to do (a lot of people seem to want to do this for the Flash support).

Hi all, I've not tried upgrading this but I did hack the heck out of my desire, having 2.2 many months before it came out. Admin can you ask scroll if they are willing to give us a copy of the 2.1 thats on it as we can revert to that if we need too. Might be worth throwing in that the Desire is a serious competitor to the iphone purely because hackers love it. Seeing as Android is free, its no loss to HTC and if I void my warranty and brick it even better for them, no repair costs and I'd have to buy another one! You often find devices that do amazingly well are down to the hacker community...... IMHO.
On a Desire, similar spec...ish, create a gold card, root it, enter maintenance mode and install a new rom from a zip on the root of your sd. Does anyone know how to enter a maintenance mode on this tablet? I won't get mine until Christmas day!

Hi all, got me a scroll for christmas, and am also interested in upgrading to 2.2, or even 2.3.
Not sure how much help I can be, but I have found out that you can enter maintenance mode by holding volume up when you power up. Press home when in maintenance mode to get to the menu. You can't do a lot from this menu at the moment, but I guess this is where we would perform the upgrade from.

I'm waiting to hear back from Storage Options about this - once I do I'll post on here.
Until then, well done for finding the maintenance mode! I'll be checking that out!

As the Scroll is a Telechips device, you might want to take a look at this:
