Workaround to get to Android Marketplace on unmodded Scroll

Good evening.

Just bought this 7" Android 2.1 tablet today which came pre-installed with the 1.02s baseband with no apparent access to the Android Marketplace.

I seem to have come up with a workaround to access the Android Marketplace. Can someone else confirm that this works for them on 1.02s?

Make sure Wi-Fi is on and connected.
Open Quick System Info.
Select the Applications tab.
Scroll down to "Browser" (Version 2.1-update 1) and press it.
Select "Search in Market"
After a short delay a screen pops up saying:
"There are no matches in Android Market for the search: pname:com.android.browser"

You're now in the Android Marketplace! Hit the magnifying glass in the top right and search for any apps and they can be installed, I searched for facebook and installed the updated app from there and it works and even shows the Twitter client there waiting for an Update.

Hope this is helpful to someone?

Regards,
--Nick.

If you go to the area with the applications there's one called "Scroll Apps" - this appears to be stuff that's included with your device, install the app called "Quick System Info" from there and then run it.

Note: If the Applications tab within Quick System Info lists com.blah stuff tap the Basic Info tab, then after that's loaded hit Applications again and then you can see the friendly name of the applications and you can see Browser there.

I tried your method, nickmooney. Result: "download unsuccessful" - as usual.

My advise: make the most of market while you have access, because I do not think you will have it for long !

That's a shame. There seems to be quite a lot of fragmentation within the product configuration too.
