Connecting to 3G phone

When I bought this the guy in the shop said that he had one and that you could connect it to a mobile phone and use it on the go. I can't find anything about it online and in the documentation and was wondering if anyone has been able to do this or even connect it to a internet dongle?

Any help will be appreciated before I return the item.

I connected an internet dongle, yielded no result. It recognised it as a SCSI device only - I think they behave in this way so that windows machines can load the software required. If there was a way to force the device type, then it may work, but this is definitely not what you would call 'out of the box' functionality!

The other way you could accomplish this is if you had an Android phone running Froyo - you can set the phone up as a WiFi hotspot, then connect the Scroll to that.

ah right, i'm trying to connect to connect it through my blackberry, which also works just like a dongle when running on windows.

I'm going to head back to the shop where I bought it from tomorrow and see if the guy who convinced me to buy it is working. He managed to sort it. I'll post results

I have managed to do this but by using the mobile hot spot feature on my HTC desire. Works really well

blackberry phones don't support WiFi hotspot capability (except the Torch 9800, i believe) and you can only tether them using Tether to Windows computers. There is an Android version, but this only supports Droid to Windows, not Droid to BB.

I plugged my HTC Touch Diamond into the scroll yesterday and all it did was start charging the phone

I havent tried the WiFi Hotspot for it yet, might do that now...

Nope, it can not see it, I dont think it is an access point, the phone turns into a different type of wireless connection , I forget the name of it now...

That's a shame the wifi hotspot works well on the desire, just turn it on leave the phone in my pocket and the scroll automatically connects, makes people think this £150 device has a 3g connection well I'm not going to disappoint people am I :-)

I`ll have a look for some other wifi router apps for my phone, they may be an option to broadcast a different type of network other than the Ad-Hoc (The name I forgot earlier) network

I was thinking of how good it would be out and about too....

Yea I to have a HTC Desire and the two work brilliantly with each other.
It really is easy to set up as well.
The Desire is a wicked piece of kit ain't it.
It's a shane it makes the Scroll seem quite slow.........
