Best Alternative Market

As many of us have limited or no Google market support, I thought it would be an idea to list alternatives and maybe add our thoughts and advice?

Not sure how we'd stand legally on this, but if an app is available for free, would it be possible for those with working markets to download things and share them here via dropbox or some such? I've seen numerous recommended apps on here, but some of them are seemingly only available from the official market

I think a sticky of free APK links would be nice.

Its not that hard to find the things we are talking about just search for appname.apk on google to find them :S
Feel free to start up a thread like that if you want it just takes alot of moderation to check all teh links go to what they are mean to and they are free to distribute

I don't understand why Google restricts access to the market place in any case. Surely by doing that they're just artificially restricting the revenue growth on the market place. A system where any android device can access the market place would give Google and the app sellers more customers and more revenue (I take it Google must take a cut of all the app sales on the market).

You have to lisence the market/googles own apps from tehm directly. Google get lots of money doing this lol. Storage Options (or the origianl maufacturer) failed hard at this and just installed hacked/illegal versions on the scroll.

Apart from my market working I use androidpit's market app as that seems to have just as much content (and if it doesn't it opens the market for me to get the app from there)

Don't know if it's important but I didn't update my market (I've got the green swish at the top with the 3 buttons (apps/games/my apps) but no carousel) and it just works.
(I created a new gmail account when I setup the scroll, which had never been near the market before if that also makes any difference)

From the link to the Android Pit app, whenever I try and download anything I just get the message - App not yet available in the App Centre, you are being rerouted to the Android market

Yeah - I get that too raflec - really annoying

It worked for a few apps, and then stopped working the other day. Really annoying.

I see 2.2 is out soon - can't wait!! Would be funny if my Scroll beat my Motorola Milestone 1 to getting Android 2.2, eh?

That said, I do have access to the proper Market on my Droid, is it legal/acceptable to post items folks want here?

Help Needed!!

Right got my new 8 IN Scroll, and it only has an App Installer

Would someone be able to point me in the way of the best/safest Market App from the ones listed above?
