As my scroll is happy about me using the market, I was thinking no probs, I'll just get stuff on my Desire and copy them over. But of course to get access to the apk files that I have downloaded I believe I need to root my phone? I'm a bit more nervous about this than I was with the scroll, as the phone is considerably more expensive! Unrevoked3 seems to be the weapon of choice.

Any first hand experiences to share?

never done a desire I need to do my girfriends aria with Unrevoked3 at some point so experiances would be appreciated

Heres a thought.... if your Desire is rooted does that give you access to the system updates that we download? Could we in theory use them to update to Android 2.2 and 2,3? /offtopic

Good luck with rooting the Desire, I would be equally nervous about bricking my phone!

You can try Astro file manager which backs up APK's to the SDcard, you shouldn't need to root it. See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=401

Sorry to the others who wanted me to root the phone, but apparently I don't need to!

Never rooted my Desire, I think i'm gonna wait until the warranty is up! Besides, I don't class my Desire as a tinkering device.

Thats what the Scroll is for!

Not that you need it now, but I do know of someone who's rooted their Desire with no problems (they are now running an unofficial Android 2.3 build)

Is easy just look for the revoked method plug in usb and one click rooting and clockwork mod I rooted mine on the second day, currently running a apps to SD rom, got over 60 apps installed and still got 98 meg of phone memory left
