Almost an owner

Postby ronecc » April 9th, 2012, 2:15 pm

Hello.
I have not yet taken the plunge to buy a tablet. I have been through the pc and laptop stages, but am now looking for something that is easier to carry around in our new motorvan. We need it to be able to keep in touch with family, and maybe write a blog of our trips. As we will be sticking to the UK this year, I am hoping that I can get on the web with my BTfon account.
I am not very technical as far as computers are concerned, and reading the various Forums on this site, it looks like all kinds of things are being done to the Excell to get it working properly.
Is it possible to use it as standard, out of the box? All this talk of clockworking, ICS etc is blowing my mind.
BT are selling the 7" Excell at .01p short of £100 which looks like a good price for a tablet that has had a good write up.
Can I ask, are they reasonably easy to use? I am retired, have had a mild stroke and sometimes it takes things a while to sink in. The grandchildren are whizzes on their ipods, but it all looks a bit fiddly. Perhaps it is the size they are working on.
Does the tablet come with full instructions, so that I do not have to keep coming back on the Forum to ask silly questions, like how do I download any photos from my camera, onto it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum
out of the box the Excel is fine the only problem is a slight delay when whatching video/youtube etc everything else works great dont need clokwork unless like us you are going to fiddle around with system files
wifi is great as is battery life BTFon should not be a problem as well as free cloud ie Mcdonalds Starbucks
if you sit in front of it for an hour or so you will soon learn how to use it or get the grandchildren to teach you
pictures just plug a usb stick in and copy over the files to your sd card or buy a cheap card reader from pound shop take card out of camera and plug it in to tablet dont know if anyone has connected their camera direct to the OTG cable?
instrutions do come in the box but not very helpful they are much easier than MS windows
WHAT DO WE WANT?
A TIME MACHINE!
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
IT DOESN'T MATTER

Thanks for your reply Mitre. Looks like I will be investing then. The Extreme looks interesting, but the boss wants to know why I would need it, as the Excel will do what we need. Given time you never know.
I will keep checking back for ideas of what I can do with it.
