Well decided to give the scroll 7" tablet a try after having several android phones, and must say awesome little piece of kit for the price (£86.99 @ maplins) altho was advertised as b-grade, was absolutely no sign of previous use.
My only gripe, after a little search thru forums, is why oh why does it come with phone features? Seems i am on f/w 1.02s, so unless I'm reading wrong, am I unable to mod this, if only to at least remove the phone options to extend battery life?
cheers ppl for any help with this ;)
Jay

Hi There,
I am on firmware 1.02 myself and I have rooted and Renamed the phone APKs on my own scroll. So 1.02s should be ok. We are just unable to use the backup software that other users can use.. (at least I haven't used it)

Hi Jay,

I'm not sure which forums you've been looking at but, once your Scroll is rooted (I used Z4Root), you shouldn't have any problem removing the phone stuff. I have the 1.02s firmware and was able to remove the junk with no problem that I can recall. It's certainly worth doing as it gave me more than an hour of extra battery life. I don't have my Scroll to hand at the moment, but if your still having a problem finding the procedure, let us know and I'm sure someone can help.

Hi Jay,

Glad you've got your scroll suitably hacked!

I haven't tried the clockwork mod, but I've installed a USB GPS driver so I can use the Scroll as a map display device (running Copilot, MM Tracker etc). I've been planning to try some other stuff, e.g. interfacing to some Arduino gadgets, but just haven't had time yet.
