Hi folks, nice to meet you all, I'm Steve from Essex, UK.

I have successfully rooted and changed roms on both my HTC Kaiser and Desire (Android) phones, though only with the help of XDA Developers website.
I love a good gadget and I am constantly fideling with one gadget or another.

I bought my scroll over the christmas holidays as I had a major lack in toys to play with over Christmas.

As it stands at the moment I think this device needs a lot of work before it realises its full potential.
I cant believe "Storage Options" are not doing any further updates...... That is just lazzynes on there part.

Straight out of the box, it aint a lot of good. There is very little ram to play with and due to the restrictions of Android 2.1, apps cannot be moved to the SD card so It doesnt matter if you put the maximum 32gig SD card in as you cant store much on it other than music, photo etc, etc.
The out dated 2.1 and Java also mean a lot of apps/games available wont run on this device (cant even install Kindle).
The transition between portrait and landscape seems to take a few seconds wich is really slow compared to my HTC Desire. This suggest to me that the "G Sensors" aint all that and I would guess they wouldn't be of much use in any games.
Whats with the HDMI socket, its tiny. Can you actually by small HDMI to large HDMI plug convertors?
It says on the spec it has 3x 1watt speakers???? I can only see 1?

Having said all this don't get me wrong, its still good value for money and I'm glad I bought mine.

If this site can provide links and instructions on how Android upgrades can be achieved this could be a good piece of kit for the money (around a 3rd the price of a Galaxy Tab!).

Thank you in advance for everyones help

Speak soon and let me know if I can be of any help.

Steve

Hi Steve,

I actually think this device is pretty cool.

I would like to address a couple of your points:
I have managed to installed Kindle for android on my scroll and it works great.

you can buy mini HDMI to HDMI cables from places such as Currys
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/matsui-hdmi-to-mini-hdmi-cable-03475129-pdt.html

I hope this has helped

Matt

Oh right, how did you get Kindle to work, have you already moded your Scroll or something?

Cheers for the HDMI link, didn't know you could buy such a thing.

I wasn't just knocking the tab, I agree its good but it could be a lot better thats all.

I just installed the Kindle without any changes. Have you done the update in the manual? The one that gets you proper Home and Market?

I also have a mini HDMI and it is very good for streaming films. I plugged a USB drive into the "Host" USB port on the Scroll, stuck the HDMI in the TV and streamed an HD film. Was painless and looked great.

When I get my next tablet, this would sit nicely alongside the TV I reckon, with a fat 1TB USB drive on it.

Hmm, an ethernet connection would be good too for getting films on there, so maybe a dual ethernet/usb external drive ....
