Also Amazon Kindle won't work.
What am I doing wrong or have I just got a dud?
Sometimes we expect our android tablets to perform as well as our desktops.
I have been a Microsoft Windows man for years and have got used to all its faults, foibles and idiosyncrasies but I have never come across such a neurotic and sensitive OS as android. It seems there is always some apparently unecessary process going on in the background that I haven't asked to run that stops or slows down something that I do want to run. Usually, I give it the time it wants and it sorts itself out and returns some form of semblance of control back to me.
Of course, the more free apps you install the more the tablet will slow down as more and more background processes run and more and more apps try to load the adverts associated with them or autoupdates preventing a previously working app from operating again until you load the update.
Sometimes, flushing cache's can make a big difference.
It sounds like you have just experienced one of the many joys/frustrations of android.
