Help Please Excel 53715 2.3 upgrade to 4.0 (total noob)

Postby Pliskin » October 29th, 2012, 8:26 pm

Hello to all
i got my Excel 53715 just under a year ago with Android 2.3.4 but the buttons on it only worked when they felt like it. So i sent it back and got another one back in less than a week but it still is running 2.3.4 so i thought now was a good time to upgrade the firmware on it as there is nothing of mine left on the tablet but i felt a bit lost looking around here (i'm not bad with computers but first time messing android) so if someone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Sean

Hi Sean, a good place to start is here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2757

If like me when I started, you have no android knowledge then you will need to do a lot of reading before you take the plunge. In the end it is not too bad upgrading the Excel but it is always undertaken at your own risk and you can theoretically turn it into an expensive brick. To help others help you, go into settings/about tablet and let us know what the build number is there. Storage Options changed the spec of the Excel many times and if you try to update using the wrong firmware you can get locked out of your tablet.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Hi Pliskin, your build 97F1-H1-H01-1291-20111117 is one of three that I am aware that Storage Options released during Novemer 2011.

On that basis you should be relatively safe following this viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3012&start=20#p24501 when you have learned and understood about Livesuite andClockwork Mod.

All kudos for these roms go to Suggsy89 without who's help we would all still be running Gingerbread.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!
