Postby neddyboy » December 29th, 2012, 11:22 am

When I turn on my scroll excel it stays on the welcome screen (the one with hot air balloon) and goes no further. I can power it on and off but it stays stays on that screen. Any ideas as to how i fix it?

Assuming this is till an unmodified stock tablet - then try this.

1. Turn tablet off
2. press and hold the volume+ button
3. whilst holding volume+ down also press and hold the power button
4.Tablet should enter recovery mode - use volume keys to navigate (up/down) and power button to select.
5. Choose factory reset and OK by pressing the power button - NB: You will lose all your apps!

If this worked your tablet should now function again.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

Hi trashcooky.
Thanks for your suggestion but unfortunatly it still remains on that screen. i have contaced storage options and all they have suggested is that if it is within warranty i return it. Of course it was bought for last christmas on the 12/12/2011 so just over a year old :(

If SO won't accept it for replacement due to out of warranty period you could always consider trying to flash another ROM image using Livesuite. However, this is not necessarily straight forward if you have never flashed a ROM before and can be fraught with issues. Meanwhile, hope you get a replacement from SO OK.

Hi Trashcooky,

What would happen if i tried to reset using a pin in the reset hole, do you think its worth trying that?

I am not sure if the Excel has a reset hole or if it is the microphone - ? I have never had to find out myself. However, if you were unable to reset to factory mode from recovery as described in my earlier post then I don't see how this would help.
If you try then at your own risk unless someone else on the forum knows more detail about the reset hole on an Excel.

EDIT update:

I lifted this direct from Storage Options help pages:
Q. How do I reset my Scroll Excel A4.0 tablet?

A. Press and hold the physical ‘Menu’ button, also press and hold the physical ‘Power’ button. Keep both buttons held until you see an Android logo.

Some options in red will appear at the top of the screen and current status appears in blue at the bottom. Press ‘Volume +’ repeatedly to highlight Wipe Data/ Factory Reset and press ‘Power’ to select the option.

Repeatedly press ‘Volume +’ to highlight Yes - Delete All User Data and press ‘Power’ to select.

When formatting is complete, you will be returned to the main menu. Press ‘Volume +’ repeatedly to highlight Wipe Cache Partition and press ‘Power’ to select.

When Cache Wipe Complete is shown on screen, you can highlight Reboot System Now in the same manner, then press ‘Power’ to select. After a few seconds Scroll Excel will reboot.
