I thought most nail varnish removers contain acetone, and it can melt plastic.

Alot do thats prbably why he said be careful lol.
very tiny amounts may help melt the scratch away I guess? there are plenty of things to try before this however

...And hence the uber-careful application, tiny drops on a none lint cloth will give good results. But you have been warned!

So my memory is still in tack -

10+ years back i was working on a 'private yacht' and got paint on my ray-bans and used some acetone (neat) to remove it, yep it removed the paint - but f'd my sunnies. ;)
