codec identifier for android

Hi,
Is there a codec identifer for android i.e. like gspot for pc? Most films and tv series not recognised on my scroll

I see Wikipedia is saying Gspot has ceased development. It says people are turning to Mediainfo. That may still all be on PC though. Maybe if you download the video to PC, you could still identify the codec and look for an Android version then.

Alternatively, if you download the vids to your PC and then use one of the many free file format converters to convert to one of the many formats the Scroll will recognise: http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

good idea about converter..trying to find fastest 1...converterlite took about 20 mins for a 350mb file but trebled the size ..played fine

I normally use Handbrake now for various conversions.

found the quickest way..run through virtualdub set to direct stream..took less than a minute for 1 tv episode ( blake 7) 350mb file..

I quite like virtual dub it is a very versatile and useful app.

Out of curiosity - which player are you using ? The beta of VLC is out for android here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... Y3bmVvbiJd

It claims to play most video file formats you can throw at it but as I say this is still in beta so there may be bugs.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

got vlc on tablet now but gonna try mx player out again as it seemed a better picture with armv7 neon codec

just a little thing to add..found out why some files wouldn't play..i was sending too many files at once to microsd card on pc..card was only class 4..started loading em on one at a time..not having any probs now
