Remove Home Screen Icons

I've been trying to but with no luck. No trash can to rag them to after the press and hold malarky. Sadly very little seems to work on the Scroll and I can't even free up space to get the few that do to the home screen.

press and hold the icon until it floats. keep hold of it and drag it to the bottom grey app draw. it should turn red when you drag the chosen icon near it.
