Help with Google Books App

I have downloaded Google Books onto my Scroll, and I can easily read the book I've purchased, BUT, I cannot download it from anywhere onto my Dads Scroll.
I can't remember how I managed to do it on mine. I'm sure I just downloaded the app and started using it, but when I try on Dada Scroll it says 'cant be found','not available' or web page unavailable.
Can anyone tell me how to download it please before I pull my hair out?
