Killed Market by editing build.prop - 7" Cap

Blast! I've now completely killed my access to Market on my 7" Capacitative. Is there any way to recover?
The Story:
I bought the Scroll new in the middle of last year. Out of the box Market worked quite well once I had learned to find it by searching the machine.
Last week I wanted to get my Calendar synching with that on my Google account. I read that the latest firmware update on the SO website fixed the problem with this, so downloaded it and did a factory reset on the box. So far so good, calendar synched and I rebuilt the machine. There were just a couple of apps that I couldn't get from the Market now (Tesco Groceries amoungst them). To try to restore this access I (foolishly it seems) played about with build.prop based on the tutorial on here and on some other references on the web. Rather than the version on here, I attempted to spoof another model of phone that implemented 2.3.1 version on the Scroll. Alas all I now get from Market is 'No matching content'. I have tried:
1) Reloading the firmware update (clean build.prop), clearing cache and doing a factory restore.
2) Pasting the first section of the V3 build.prop from the tutorial into the phone (using adb over USB)
3) 1) plus logging into Google with a brand new shiney Google account.
To no avail. Attempt 2) above just got me into a boot loop.
How does Market differentiate between my Scroll as was after the firmware update and my scroll now (after a fresh firmware update and factory restore)?
Can anyone please help suggest a fix that will get me back in touch with the apps I have paid for (and get me back all of the other Apps I had?
