Scroll 8 inch tab

When I first had this device, I posted a problem here where my microsd card had got stuck inside the unit. I have managed to remove this by undoing the scroll to remove it. However since this was done, it is clear I must have damaged this port and furthermore today , I had to take the scroll apart again as another card had become stuck.
My reason for mentioning the above is that I understand when trying to download an app from the Android Market, I have accessed this via a search for an app on the built in app center and then searched while on the Market for other apps, it reports it is unsuccessful. I understand that this could be that it needs a microSD card. Well I have no chance of that, is there anyway around this e.g. use an usb host connection instead?
Second question on the app center, I have not used the scroll for a while , however when I went into the app center it said that there was an update, stupidly I downloaded this, now if I try and pick an app which needs to go to the Android Mark, the screen goes black and I get a force close window.
Any help would be appreciated.
