Problem disabling phone APK

Evening

I tried to disable the phone APK's on my new Scroll Excel tablet running android 2.3 using the following guide - viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1570 to increase my battery life

However when i get to the point of renaming Phone.apk in the command line it crashes the tablet with the following error
"The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" if i hit force close on the tablet it just brings the error up again and again so i cant shutdown/restart the tablet

I have AVG installed on the phone and i tried using that to kill com.android.phone but it still came up with the error

Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to the forum :D

Have you tried putting a pin in the reset hole on the base of the Excel?

if you did it as per the veiw topic you linked to should be able to do it again but rename them to the original ie romve the.old if you do it from stage 6 you should be ok
ps you shouldn't do any mods that dont have the word excel in. Any post prior to 19th Dec 2011 will be pertaining to the older scroll version

Aye i managed to get the file renamed back to what it was and as soon as i did rename it the error went away immediately - thankfully i work on unix boxes at work and have a few Ubuntu machines around the house so i know my way around Unix

It seems to be on my tab the com.android.phone process seems to keep a lock on the files that need to be renamed and even if it is killed it comes back immediatly

Ah well i guess they changed the settings between the version i have and the older version

Just OT on Ubuntu it is quite flexible, i have one machine upstairs running software RAID 5 with 4 1tb drives that has been stable for over 3 years now - only gets rebooted once every 5months or so and a combination of Ubuntu version 10 and XBMC allows you to get even an old dell optiplex280 to handle high def and xbmc is controllable with an Android tab

Its a bit of a bugger about not being able to kill off the phone gubbins but i have been reading that thread about removing the phone stuff

Still too early to tell and not done any proper tests. TBH at this stage I don't think it has made any difference, unlike the 1st gen scroll, there was a lot more battery life with these disabled. Maybe 2.3 is coded very different to 2.1.
