Scroll Excel won't boot

Postby strangelad » April 15th, 2012, 8:02 pm

I have a little bit of a problem, I've done everything listed by Mitre to install CWM5, I can get the CWM5 menu up when I boot the scroll, I've taken a backup but it doesnt recognise it so.....
On a normal boot I get the splash screen but nothing else, it just hangs, I've tried doing a factory reset from the CWM menu but to no avail, anyone have any suggestions? I should add that the model is a 53715, I've found this: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2085&p=15886&hilit=cyanogen#p15886 but that's for a different model number (thanks to suggsy btw) Can anyone point me in the direction of a Cyanogen rom for this model?

I've now tried installing the 2 roms in the above thread, the SCROLL7-8K-cyanogen-signed.zip failed (I figured it would), the SCROLL7-recovery-signed.zip works but I still can't get past the damned start up/splash screen. I get the Android ADB Interface appearing in Device Manager (just before the device switches itself off). I can't run any of the commands in the adb/fastloader directory as I just get "waiting for device").

Right, now I've tried suggsy method of a push from adb (viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2259) I get "failed to copy 'recovery.img' to 'mnt/extern_sd/recovery.img': Read-only file system" when I try to push the recovery.img over.

Cheers in advance.

Ill try and help...
What are you trying to do?
What did you do?
What stage are you at now?
Can you get to, and use clockwork mod recovery?
Lastly, what model do you have?

Cheers for replying.
What I'm trying to do is recover my tablet which can't get past the hot air balloon splash screen.
I followed Mitre's post on installing CWM5, rebooted the tablet, checked that I could get into recovery (I can) and then rebooted, at which point the tablet hung at the splash screen.
I'm still in the same predicament as above.
I've tried recovering from a zip on the sd card one that you supplied here (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2085&p=15886&hilit=cyanogen#p15886), it failed.
I've tried pushing from adb as per here (viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2259) but get "failed to copy 'recovery.img' to 'mnt/extern_sd/recovery.img': Read-only file system".
Yes, I can get into recovery (I'm assuming it's CWM, start tab, hold menu and start buttons and it takes you into a root recovery mode, install from zip file, update, etc).
The tablet is a 7" inch Scroll Excel model 53715.

Firstly there is no cyanogenmod for the excel, secondly flashing a rom not designed for your device will obviously fail or corrupt you system resulting in massive bootloops.
If you have a backup, try restoring that?
If not, you may have to flash via livesuit and start from the beginning.

I suspect that you have corrupted the system, can you get an ADB SHELL while its stuck at the bootloder?

I only assumed there was a cyanogenmod because of posts on both here and xdadevelopers. The roms I flashed were all roms posted on here for the Excel, the failure came before any of the flashes when I was still running stock, after installing CWM5, anyway, I digress.
The backup reported success but when I try to restore from backup, it can't find one (nothing on the SD either).
Right, Livesuite, I tried this yesterday, I followed your instructions for installing ICS (turn off, hold down home, insert usb then 6-10 power ons), Windows 7 then tries to install drivers and fails, I'm guessing this means I've either got the wrong drivers installed or they're corrupted?
Yes, I can get an ADB Shell up when the device is connected.

Cheers.

Oh, right, if you have a little search around here on the forum, Mitre has a stock backup for the Excel, its Gingerbread, if you can find it, make a folder on your sdcard called "clockworkmod" without quotes, then put the backup in that folder, then try from recovery to restore that backup.
Hope that helps, let me know how it goes.

Bizarrely I think I found that one last night, I just couldn't find out what to do with it. I'll have a pop tonight.

Cheers.

Suggsy,

The only one I can find is this:
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2259
but I'm having problems copying over the img file, I'm still getting:
mnt/extern_sd/recovery.img: cannot open for read: No such file or directory
Which leads me to believe it's not recognising the sd card, so... how do I format the sd card so that it recognises it? Can I mount it through CWM5?

Cheers for all this btw.

Right, there's the problem then
cwm-based Recovery v5.0.2.7
Error mounting /sd-ext
If I mount directories then it unmounts everything bar cache when I restart it
I've tried mounting the sdcard directory and then adb push recovery.img mnt/sdcard but still get:
failed to copy 'recovery.img' to 'mnt/sdcard': No such file or directory
repartitioned sd-ext, formatted, and mounted sd-ext, still fails on
failed to copy 'recovery.img' to 'mnt/sdcard': No such file or directory

Right, I'm going to guess it's this:
viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1978&start=140
I'm not using Stericcson though, I've got:
busybox
BusyBox v1.18.3 (2011-02-23 23:09:23 EST) multi-call binary.
