Help Please, my Excel seems to have died

Postby veedubya » April 20th, 2012, 3:09 pm

I've had my Excel for nearly 2 weeks & have been happy with it up to now.

However, it has just died on me. It is totally unresponsive. Won't do a thing. It switched itself off after leaving it for a few minutes. I couldn't get it to switch back on, so I tried plugging the charging cable in & that brought it back to life, but it is still unresponsive. No matter what I do, it won't do anything.

Can anyone help please?

Android can be just as stroppy as Windows on occasion so don't panic.
You say it came to life but is unresponsive? Can you be a bit clearer on this.
Is there any chance that it just simply needs a full charge?
My Excel will occasionally lock-up for no apparent reason (part of the charms of unoptimised builds) and I find that a long press on the power key usually sorts it out by powering off then allowing me to reboot.
Another thing to remember is that the more apps you have installed the longer it will take to fully boot.
You may get the unlock screen before everything is loaded in the background and this can give you a completely unresponsive screen until everythings is up and running.
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

@veedubya - You may have to do a factory reset/wipe, boot into Recovery and select that option from the menu (This will wipe everything your have added since you received the device or last factory reset.) If you have installed CWM Recovery try wiping cache 1st instead (this will save your data).

Many thanks for the replies. It seems to have recovered all on its own, so for the moment, I am leaving well alone.

Charlie - what is CWM Recovery and how do I install it please?

Many thanks for that, unfortunately, it sounds a bit too technical for me. It also invalidates the warranty, so if I get further problems, I shall return my tablet to Dabs.com where I bought it from.

Thanks again for the replies, nice to know that help is at hand ;)

Since my original post, my Excel did a few odd things including freezing, losing all my bookmarks etc. This finally culminated in a total freeze on Monday, not responding to anything. I thought it was going to have to be sent back, but I tried doing a Reset by poking something small & sharp into the Reset hole on the side. The reset didn't, as I expected, restore the Excel to factory settings, it just came back to life with all my bookmarks and settings still in place, so I am now a happy bunny :D
