ChainFire gets a lot of mentions on the forum.
Can someone please tell me:
Q: (a) What does it do?
Q: (b) Can I install and use the CF3D driver safely on a stock Excel?

Hi.
Chainfire is a replacement OpenGL driver.
And with plugins etc, you can tweak the driver, to make some incompatible games work.
I recommend the pro version. With the pro version you can make settings on a per-app basis.
Runs great on the Excel (Gingerbread or ICS).
It's been on mine for ages.
Hope this helps :)

Thank's a lot blueeagle69
Can I screw up my tablet completely or are all tweaks resettable ?
Reason I ask is that I can't get Asphalt 6 to run and thought from what I had read on here that chainfire might be an answer. :)

I've installed it around ten times, due to firmware tests etc. And it has never once gave me problems.
Install chainfire, then go into that to install the driver.
The tablet will reboot, job done.
There is a risk with it of course due to what it actually is.
But it has never caused problems.
Backup with cwm mod first if you are worried mate:-)
One mention though.
If you have already installed the free version, and installed the driver. You will have to revert to the standard driver, and install again if you upgrade to the pro version. As the pro driver has an enhanced driver, called EGL.
All ths can be done via the chainfire menu.
If you need the plugins, give me a shout :-)
These add support for Qualcomm, PowerVR and Tegra.

No probs buddy.
Install the free version, then get the pro version and install over the top.
Well worth the money for the extra settings etc.
