Custom ROMs?

I bought a Scroll Extreme from Ebuyer and sadly it was a pile of poo. It was sluggish, the screen was dull and it suffered the crackling interference sound. I sent it back. However, I am looking at it again but this time wondering if it could be rooted with a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod 9 (CM9), AOKP or similar?
I've seen a post on how to flash Clockworkmod Recovery, but has anyone had any joy with custom ROMs?
