This is the same build as my Excel and I have been very pleased with Suggsy's Ice Cream Sandwich build 4.0.4.
If you feel confident and make backups before you start then you can upgrade to ICS 4.0.4 in 2 stages.
Stage 1 is to upgrade to the unofficial ICS 4.0.3 using livesuite. This will wipe everything from your tablet. and is available here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2516
This rom includes a working copy of Clockwork Mod in it which will allow you to update to ICS 4.0.4 using CWM and Suggsy's ICS 4.0.4 update zip which is available here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2558
The usual warnings about flashing Roms Apply - that you may void your warranty as well make your tablet inoperable.
If you have no experience at all then this video is a very useful starting place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fATLTulwdQg

EDIT: This will not entirely cure the lipsync issue with iPlayer nor will Skype work. However, you should get a perfect operation of Catchup TV. I certainly do.

I quite understand, it took me several months before I went for it, I had never done anything like it before other than flashing a new bios to my desktop PC - and I know that is fraught with dangers.

Have you tried the TV catchup mobile app ? It works really well on ICS but I don'r know if it is as good on Gingerbread 2.3.4 or not. If you want to give it a go you can download the app here for free: http://tvcatchup.com/android.html

You will have to create an account using a live email address and a password of your choice.
This is the only streaming TV service I have found that seems to be trouble free - no lip sync issues - and a very clear picture.
You have to suffer an initial advert to get on the chanels but this is a very small inconvenience for the excellent results.
Let us know how you get on with Gingerbread 2.3.4 and this app. If it doesn't work well, all you will have to do is simply uninstal it. :D
