Firmware update on new Scroll?

Following the instructions for my new Scroll meticulously, I touch the “app installer” icon, and it scans, and gives me a list: Facebook/Home/FBReader.
The instructions say I *may* be asked to give the location of updates, and should type in “/nand”. But it hasn’t asked me for anything, so the process stops here. I haven’t upgraded the firmware, and I haven’t got access to Android Market. Anyone know how to proceed from here?

Well, I did that, a couple of times (had to uninstall it first), following the instructions precisely, up to instruction 6, where I didn't get the "complete action using" window, but a window containing two icons called 'app installer' and 'browser'. No further on. Any further advice much appreciated!

hi , do this , it will reset to factory settings , switch off your scroll by holding down the power button , hold the power button and hold the up volume key , select the reset factory settings option by using the up key to navigate and the down key to make the selection , this will wipe all your user data but reset everything back to stock , then follow the instructions again , making sure to tick the box before proceeding , hope this helps .

Yeah, I've done that factory reset - three times! I've eventually got it to run through the whole 'update firmware' sequence, to where it says 'this completes the firmware update, and adds the Android Market icon to the desktop...'. But it doesn't. Where to go from here? ....
