Scroll Explore 7" - Reverts to Stock-like after every reboot

I just got a Scroll Explore 7" and loved it for the first 2 days but now I clearly have done something it doesn't like.

At the start, I rooted it and that went fine. Added a few apps, changed the launcher and tidied up the screen. Turned it on and off a few times with no problems.

Then I installed Busybox and Titanium Backup and one of those two programs must have done something.

After I installed those programs, I turned the tablet off only to restart it the next day and it was as if all my changes had never been made. All the added programs were gone, and the tablet was back to the appearance and contents of its first-boot.

Furthermore, when I check the storage - the first storage listed is completely full but only measures ~30mb. I couldn't install any new apps and even minor changes like moving an icon are undone when there's a reboot.

So I installed the adb and that seems to work normally, I'm rooted so I can remove programs manually but the tablet won't let me install anything above that 30mb limit. I used 'pm set-install-location 1' to install to the sdcard which works but yet again when I reboot all the changes are undone.

I'm really annoyed with myself as I thought the tablet was fantastic, had it set up just how I liked it and a bargain at the price of €65.

Does anyone have experience with this type of problem? I'm on Linux so I'm not worried about using the command-line or anything like that, but this was my first time using Ice Cream Sandwich so I'm not sure how to fix this. I imagine there's something I could flash onto the tablet to make it truly like it was the first time I used it and would let me install apps like normal again that will persist past a reboot.

All help will be much appreciated!!

I hope some of our long standing members are looking in as technical help seems to be getting a bit thin on the ground at the moment.
I certainly don't know enough to help you myself but I do remember a case where a Scroll tablet owner put Stericson's busybox on it because they didn't realise that there was already a busybox version installed on the tablet. I suspect this may be the same case with your tablet too. All I remember was that installing Stericson's busybox stuffed the tablet right up. If you put "Stericson" into the Forum search engine you will find plenty about it but as a start you can see this here: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=1800&start=40&hilit=stericson

As I say, I don't know enough tech to help you on this one but hopefully you can find some good clues in these Stericson threads.

Update: I just remembered also that you will probably find one or more folders called "Lost.dir" I have been told that these are containers for fail-safe write-backs when something goes wrong. Usually when things are normal these folder/s remain empty but when a conflict arises files are dumped with random numbers as filenames and are usually corrupted data which the tablet tries to read in order to try and repair itself. This often leads to overwrites similar to your description of your lost changes every time the tablet boots as these files are read during the boot process.

You could try backing up the folder/s contents (if any ) and then delete the lost.dir folder/s which will be recreated on next boot but will be empty. Hope this is of some small help.

Many thanks for your reply!

Busybox is my prime suspect but I'm still not used to android so I wasn't sure what to suspect/verify first.

I've seen a few LOST.DIRs around the ext/sdcard, I'll have a look into them tonight and post back tomorrow.

Cheers, I'd thought they were just system artifacts and not even checked their contents till I read your post :)
