Scroll Excel II stuck in CWM Bootloop

Postby Bcscouse » February 15th, 2013, 10:10 am

Hi all, I just got my Scroll Excel II a couple of weeks ago and I did have a Chinese tablet before that lost its original firmware so in order to protect my new gadget I decided to back up the rom using CWM 5.5.04. I know I had to root my device with all of the consequences of warranty but I done it without any problems and carried onto backing up the rom. I did notice on the Storageoptions site there was no firmware available for my tablet which only made me more positive to save what I already had and keep it safe on my pc.

I followed the instructions very carefully on CWM and got the message rom was successfully backed up and to reboot which I did. Then everything went wrong. It is now in a boot loop with CWM and no matter what I have tried to do to reset, flash and use ADB I have had no results just the same screen coming back again and again. In my search for help with the problem I noticed CWM 5.5.0.4 does have a bug that causes this but no matter how many different ideas that have been posted, I can't seem to get very far. One of the main reasons is I cannot mount any of the stuff like cache/recovery/command, system/log, sd card, emmc, data. I have cleared the entire system but still get the same results. I know I am connected to my pc and have pushed several different roms onto the system but none of them come up. As well as ADB I also tried Odin but the system will not show there no matter what I try to do loading different USB drivers.

That leaves me now in a situation were I can see so many others suffering from this problem but none of the suggestions seem to work for me and the various posts on all of the Android forums just seem to end without showing any results but then again maybe they get it working and just go away? I would be so appreciative if someone could come up with a cure for this problem as I do not consider this tablet to be bricked, it is working only CWM is stopping everything.

Details:

Scroll Excel II 8gb Running ICS 4.0.4 (or was once)

Re-boot screen is showing
-reboot system now
-install zip from sd card
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-backup and restore

Being an Excel II means that it either has a Boxchip A10 Cortex A8 or the A13 CPU both of which (to the best of my knowledge) can be flashed with new ROM via livesuite.

Have a look here for livesuite: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2757&start=10#p23320

look here for the firmware that should get you going again: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3208&p=25257#p25259 If you choose Suggsy89's 4.0.3 zip - unzip it to get at the rom image, flash this using Livesuite and this should get you running again on ICS 4.0.3. This custom ROM also includes CWM built in to it.

When you have done this step you can then update to ICS 4.0.4 using Suggsy89's update.zip which you update using CWM.

NOTE: although these firmwares were developed on the orginal Excel I don't see why they won't work on the Excel II but there may be differences so the usual caveat is proceed at your own risk (although at the moment you don't seem to have much to lose.)

If when done you have your CWM original backup safe then I don'e see why you shouldn't be able to put that back on the tablet using CWM - unless it is corrupt and hence your current problems?

If you have never used Livesuite before then watch this very comprehensive video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fATLTulwdQg:
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

I have tried to use Livesuite but can never install the drivers on my Windows 8 64bit. The tablet shows up on the device manager as A10 with a warning sign. I have tried to update manually with the drivers in the Livesuite folder but neither the 64 or 32 bit will be recognized.

Livesuit is fussy at times and does not like win 8, I have issues with it on win 7 64bit but all fine on win 7 32bit

I just tried it on my Windows 7 32bit laptop and the same problem. If I use the ADB drivers it works but recognizes it on the device manager as an Samsung Android phone but Livesuite can't see it.

Well I have just spent the last 10 hours trying to get Livesuite working. I have constantly had to uninstall and reload it to even appear on the screen. Only on one occasion did I successfully have Livesuite loaded with the driver but when I finally pushed the button for it to load the rom, it stopped saying it was not connected to the device even though the device manager showed it to be working. I have tried this on 3 machines now. Windows 8 pro 64, Windows 7 Ultimate 32 and I even dug out my old XP machine and each one of them reported the same driver problem. Is there any alternative to Livesuite? It is so buggy to use and completely unreliable.

After two weeks of trying to fix this tablet, I decided to contact Storage-Options and see if they could help with this problem. They told me to return it to them and they will cover it under warranty. They did not have to as the problem was not due to any manufacturing defect but they even provided me with the postage and I sent it back to them on a Friday afternoon and received the replacement on Tuesday at 12 noon. I have to say that Storage-Options are one of the best companies I have ever dealt with and their attitude towards their customers is excellent. I have now got my new Excel II working fine but I will not be loading CWM on it until I know that this will not happen again.
