Hi
I've been given an early model Essential to sort out. It has the Telechips processor and currently running Android 2.3. Sort of.
While I do get to the Android desktop, the problem I've got is that most of the hardware doesn't seem to work. The camera, SD slot, and tilt sensor don't work, but the touchscreen and wifi works. When I plug the tablet into my computer it appears as a storage device, and I can also send it adb commands, but not fastboot commands. I'm assuming that I've got the wrong firmware, but while the tablet boots I am shown the Storage Options balloon splash screen, and the device name in the settings menu is given as 'Essential'.
Another odd thing is that when I switch on and hold volume + and power, I get to a recovery menu. One of the options is 'hardware check', and when I select this I get a list of components and their respective status. Almost everything has 'error' next to it, including 'usb' and 'sd card'. In fact the only things that don't are the touchscreen, wifi, and the clock. This is very odd as once Android is running, the usb port does work.
What do I need to do to get everything working? I'm assuming I'll need to reflash the ROM? I'm not at all fussed about losing any data as there isn't anything on there, but I'm aware that I should backup the ROM just in case I brick the tablet. After browsing this site I've found the instructions telling me how to dump the ROM using dd. I'd have to dump the ROM to the internal SD card and copy them off manually as Android doesn't recognise my SD card.
Once I've done that do I just use fastboot to flash the new ROM? At the moment I can issue adb commands from my PC, but 'adb reboot bootloader' causes the USB connection to be lost and I am then asked for a different driver, which I don't seem to have anywhere. What do I need to do to get everything working, and which ROM do i need? The Yarvik Tab211 ROM, or will the miScroll ROM work (it has the same processor, and resistive touchscreen that the original Essential has)?
Thanks
