Scroll extreme 9.7: Touchscreen works without touch...

Hi, I recently purchased above. Worked well until the tablet started selecting icons and links without touching the screen. It has been suggested that this might be a firmware problem but tbh I have not got a clue what firmware is/does or whether this is a reasonable explanation of what the problem may be, and possible fixes.
