Extracting apk files from img files

The topic says it all, but how do I do it?
I have an emulator on my PC running a virtual machine with android market installed. I can successfully download and install and run apps onto the emulator to try them out. Given the fact that my market is busted on my scroll my idea is to extract the apk files from the emulator, copy them to my scroll and use them.
At the moment, I have various img files in the emulator avd folder and winzip 15 is set to extract img files, however, it doesnt like the android ones. Is there a program I can use to view the contents (and extract) from these img files?
If its a simple answer, ill apologise in advance - you could say i must be having a "blonde moment", if I had any hair that is!
Any help appreciated

Thanks Diego, ive had some success.....
I have nero9, that wouldnt open the files. Tried ultraiso and it will open the files on the sdcard.img but not the others. I then installed andexplorer on the emulator and tried to look for the apk files downloaded from the market. Ther idea being to copy/paste them with andexplorer onto the sdcard.img then extract with ultraiso.
But... I cant find where the market downloads the apk file to. Going round in circles I think... coffee break then have another look. By the way, its a 1.6 virtual machine im running.

Use Android Commander or ADB to download files from emulator.
Market save files to /cache
Installed apps are in /data/app

why would you try this to fix the market? we have tried swapping multiple vending.apk files around the things I doubt thats the issue... especially as the emulator device has a completely different set of device IDs etc

Warpedflash: Because its fun to try!
However....Nemka et al.... despite downloading 10 apps in the market, installing and running them on the emulator, there are no apk files in the cache & data/apps or anywhere else except the system/app folder ( and they are only system apps) I have tried various net solutions all to no avail. I have the market running on a 1.6 and 2.1 emulator with the same results.
Unless, the emulator isnt "rooted" and there are files there that I cannot see.
Hmmm.... this is going to bug me for days now!

Hi Fonefixer,
Your idea got me to thinking, so I installed the market on an emulator. then astro filemanager which lets you backup the installed apps to the virtual sdcard.
I initially thought that that would be it as you can email the apk's directly from astro, unfortunately the scroll would only preview them from within gmail and the installation manager wouldn't parse the file. So I downloaded swiFTP using the emulator emailed and downloaded on the PC copied to the scroll via USB (normal long winded way).
Installed that on the scroll and AndFTP on the emulator. Now I can FTP between the emulators backed up APK's and the scroll.
Thanks for the idea.

Well done Steve! I knew the idea was right, just diddnt know how to implement it.
Are you using the 1.6 emulator or a 2.1 version with the market apk? Ill have to look at this more tomorrow as I have to take SWMBO out for dinner (KFC doing 2 for 1 lol)

I hope she appreciates you. KFC guaranteed good night out
I'm using 1.6 as I found the set up instructions for that, If I come across an app that won't load, I may try 2.1.
