Winamp for android

first off, I've been a winamp fan for a very long time :)

D/L the winamp for android .apk, installed fine, scanned for files fine and I've been happily listening to my 'choon's' since...
until today.

started my scroll (it had been shutdown last night) and opened up winamp...none of my music files appeared? it attempts to scan for files but doesn't actually seem to be doing anything, in the background of the scanning icon it says there was an error accessing the sdcard???

forced shutdown (the screen and buttons were unresponsive) removed the sdcard and reinserted (just incase ;) ) rebooted and opened the file explorer, sdcard is there as is my files...back to winamp and nothing...same stuck in a search loop...

I've not changed anything else recently so I'm lost as to the cause :(

anyone else had this or something similar?

i think I'm onto something here, seems to be an issue with .avi music videos stored on the card...winamp is reading them as music files :-/

You could put a .nomedia file into the folder with the avi's then winamp won't scan them as audio or indeed anything

i took them off the card completely, no difference
i removed all music off the card and re-sync'd the libary, no difference

might just uninstall and re-install, see if that helps :-/

thanks for the tip jimmy, i didnt know that!

.nomedia works with anything that scans the folders (Gallery etc) and stops it from scanning anything in that particular folder... good if you have apps that create folders that are filled with tiny images and logos and you don't want to wade through them when you open your gallery (I know the game dev should put the .nomedia file in themselves, but hey ho... seen it with loads of apps so far...)

uninstall/reinstall didn't help, :-/
reformat the sdcard is my next idea...

that didn't work either >:(
even with nothing on the card, it sits there 'searching'...
have tried everything i could think of but no result :-/
for the time being I'm going to put this on the back burner and await 2.2

well i couldn't give up that easily!
half an hour of poking around and head scratching (android is making my scalp bleed)...
restored MediaProvider.apk.old back to MediaProvider.apk and rebooted...
went back to market, downloaded winamp (for like the 5th time!) and installed, fired it up and everything works again

still none the wiser as to why it decided to 'break' when it did...
