File type associations

Does anyone know how to change these, to make a specific app the default for a specific filetype.
To be specific, I want an html attachment in an email when opened to launch Dolphin browser, or at least to be given the choice. Currently it launches HTMLViewer which does not handle the attachment properly.
Thanks

Sorry it is not clear what you are asking, can you be more specific? Thanks ;)

P.S. TBH - I am not sure - is there a setting in the Dolphin browser its self?

If you clear the cache & Dalvik cache (latter if you're cwm'ed) it'll reset all app associations... not sure how to clear or set individual as it stops asking after 2 times of selecting the same app.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

@charlie - To try and explain the problem more clearly - I receive an email in the default email app. It has an HTML file attachment. I need to open that attachment with a browser (like Dolphin for example) rather than using the default HTMLViewer, but I am not given a choice of apps.

@JimmyW - I'll try clearing the cache - I am not CWMed at the moment

@Mac - how do I remove HTMLViewer? I have looked in settings / manage apps / all and I can see HTMLViewer and I hot the Force stop button but it doesn't seem to do anything. I assume I may have to remove / rename a file in /system/app, is it obvious which one?

settings / manage apps / all > look for the default browser and clear any defaults related to that. then lauch dolphin and make it your default browser. Might help?

Sadly I have tried all these suggestions with no effect. One weird thing was I renamed HTMLViewer.apk and rebooted, checked in settings / manage applications /all to make sure it wasn't there, but email still launched HTMLViewer! What I need is something like the Windows filetype association app. I'll keep googling.

Quick update. I have checked many other forums and I am sure there is no filetype association manager app.
However for my specific problem, I solved it by installing another email client (K-9) which does allow you to select the app you want to use to open an HTML attachment. So it looks like the built in email client has the association hard coded. A colleague of mine has a 2.2 android system (not scroll) and he says that his email client does allow you to select apps. So roll on 2.2 on scroll!
