Initial "upgrade to latest firmware" failed

Hi all,

I rather stupidly played around with my new Scroll before reading the manual, and somehow formatted the /nand partition, thus losing all the initial upgrade data. So I was unable to perform the initial "upgrade to latest firmware" process, and don't have access to Android Market. Other than that, the device works fine, including the internet and the supposedly non-existent microphone.

Any suggestions or links to the missing files would be much appreciated. I don't mind tinkering around if necessary.

Thanks in advance,

Tystie

I have uploaded the file to:

http://rapidshare.com/files/440289375/M ... uncher.apk

Copy this to a directory on a SD card or to a directory on the device
Open "App installer"
Press the context menu button
Select scan folder
Enter the location of the file (For example if it is a directory called "apps" on your SDCARD enter /sdcard/install
Click OK
You should see the file
Select and install

:@)

The other files that were in /nand were "Facebook" and "FB Reader"

You can get the latest versions of these from the marketplace.

Many thanks, superplay, for your quick and useful reply. It all now works perfectly!

This does indeed install Android Marketplace, and the rest is now up to me...

It does, however, raise a few questions concerning their documentation. The manual claims it as a firmware upgrade, but the firmware version remains at 1.00.

Also there definitely is a working built-in microphone, in spite of the explicit denial on the product's faqs: http://www.storageoptions.com/support/f ... wentyseven

However, I'm very grateful to you for taking the trouble to upload the required file and answer my request with such speed.

Cheers,

Tystie

No problem for the help.

I also doubted the term "Firmware Upgrade" the update seems to be a "software interface update"

and I was also surprised that the scroll has a mic even though the site says it does not. I am not complaining though ;-)

Lets hope that these are clarified by the people at storageoptions in future manual releases.

With regards to the mic,

the specs says 3x 1w speakers, could it be that there is no mic but some software programes use the 3rd speaker as a mic?

Interesting theory :-) as

eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_2270775_make-mi ... z19u8eA2Nw

states that "Microphones and speakers are reciprocal devices-that is, they can both operate as one or the other"

Yep, basically when the speaker is not in use or when using a recorder program e.g. Sound Recorder or Camcorder the speaker is changed into a input rather than an output, thus why the scroll has the ability to record sound! Clever :)
