GPS Settings in Security and Location - Where?

Hi

I've had my Scroll 2 days now and am starting (slowly) to get to grips with it. Had a nasty moment when I inadvertantly changed the language to a form of Chinese but thats sorted now.

When I installed Google Map 5 it took me to a screen where I had a choice of enabling GPS as well as wireless as a means of establishing my location.

I enabled GPS with the intention of going back and turning it off as it eats into the battery I think - and there's no GPS hardware of course. However, I now cant find the menu to turn off the GPS option. It is supposed to be under Security and Location in Settings but I sure can't find it! That is there's no Security or Location in Settings that I can see. Am running 2.1 on the 8" Scroll.

Now the menu was there during Google Maps setup so where is it now? Is it a hidden menu of some sort?

Maybe someone can help>

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply.

Problem is all I get when I go to "use my location" is in effect a toggle on or off. I cant see how to select the method ie wireless or GPS.

Any ideas?

Cheers

There is no option for normal GPS, the GPS function only uses wireless / IP to locate you

Ok. Its just that during the setup of Google maps there was an option to use GPS which I selected. The setup took me to a part of the Scroll settings that it appears is unreachable through the settings menu.

The "hidden" menu also had settings for how to turn the Scroll off I think. I didn't look too closely at them as I thought I would be able get access to the options later. But I was wrong it seems.

Having done a search here, I think the issue was discussed here

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=359&hilit=gps

as it seems the same menu is involved.

I'm very new to this but is it a matter of being able to access the root to see these options?

Cheers

From what I can see in my androind SDK of a standard 2.1 the "settings -> location & security settings" menu is missing from the scroll, but it is there in the background :(
something else they missed out

Ah ok sorry I understand now - download "Any Cut" from the market and make a new shortcut to "location & security settings"

Now you can access Use GPS satalites options and Set unlock Pattern and other hidden settings

Looks like its hidden for a reason, it crashes a lot telling it to use Wireless for location

If you download Battery Doctor from the Market and install it, in Settings there is a list with Airplane Mode etc. and there is a choice of whether to turn GPS on or off which I find helpful. Having said that I've got no idea what it does when it's switched on, lol. :D

Thanks ekco. I just wanted it off in case it drains the battery.

I have now downloaded "Any Cut" as Detection suggested and created a shortcut to the menu and turned off the GPS.

I then had to find out how to remove the shortcut from Home as I didn't need it any longer.

Turns out it's easy to do but I spent ages looking through menus and looking at file folders in Astro before I found out you drag it and drop into the tab!
