Won't boot up

I've just bought a Scroll from Maplins.
I've taken it out of the box, plugged in the charger and switched it on an hour or so.
All I am getting is the Scroll logo on a white background.
I've tried switching it off and on again.
I've tried switching it on while charging from USB.
I've tried switching it on attached to nothing.
I'm still looking at the Scroll logo.
I can't see anywhere where I can give it a cold boot or whatever.
Any suggestions or have I bought a duff one?
Apart from that it looks quite nice and will make a good coffee cup coaster.

Hi looks like you might have a dead scroll. I'd take it back to Maplin and get it swapped, they shouldn't give you too much grief. I got a keyboard with mine that they exchanged when it didn't work

Thanks for the advice.
I did also find the advice about booting into maintenance mode which I am able to do but still no joy when I switch on again after.
It is one of those refurbished units that Maplin are selling for £99.
I thought they meant that the seal had been broken or there might be a scratch on it, not that they were selling £99 bricks.
I've contacted customer care and will be returning it tomorrow.
So much for playing with my shiny new toy over the weekend!
