Angry Birds (and others) hardware incompatibility

Postby zollies » January 5th, 2011, 1:02 am

Hi Peeps

Is anyone else here disappointed and a little confused as to why Angry Birds doesn't work on the Scroll ? It's probably THE most popular game, in the world, on Android and iPhone!!

I could understand a screen resolution issue (although the developers of Angry Birds now support 320x240 as well as 800x480) or perhaps Android version but what in the hardware makes it incompatible?

My greater concern is which other apps have similar compatibility issues.

Is someone compiling a list of incompatible apps on the Scroll? Do you think it's perhaps worth a sticky thread?

All the best

I'm not sure why Angry Birds is not compatible, but the main gameplay actually runs. In fact it runs quicker on my Scroll than it does on my HTC Desire. Some graphics are missing though

Downloaded and played 2 of the angry birds games, the Winter one with the santa hat on is the easiest to start the game through - the normal one has more invisible menus to find, but still happy that both play fine once you get the game started

Yeah, the games kind of work but none of the text, scores and ratings do, so you can't really tell how well your doing.

What's weird is that the graphically intensive bits seem fine whilst simple menus fail to display. How is this then a hardware issue??

But I guess my main point is, if this can happen with such a popular app, how many others aren't compatible?

it is strange how the more intense graphics work and the menus and scoring doesn't, apparently it is down to the OpenGl inside the scroll which can't generate some of the graphics

Just loaded up angry birds and the Play button that is normally a white square actually showed up correctly for the first time along with its proper surrounds, the next menus did not.. .but why / how could it work this time and not others ?
