Newbie needing a lot of help

I've been browsing the forum for quite a while now but never registered. I'm in desperate need of some simple dumbed down help for getting my scroll up and running. The girlfriend kindly bought me a Scroll tablet for my birthday (http://www.maplin.co.uk/7inch-android-2 ... panel=off#) back in January but due to every reason under the sun I haven't had chance to have a proper play around with it. I've spent all day messing around, downloading apps, changing this setting and then changing it back but I've now discovered I can't sync it to my pc, or not in the way I was hoping for.

I have many questions, any help is very much welcomed......

1) If I use the "mount" option for the internal or external storage (I've bought a sd card to go inside) my pc just freezes when I try and explore the files or add/delete new folder to place my files in. It either says "Please insert a disk drive" or just completely freezes until I select unmount on the scroll. Am I just being impatient or is there something wrong?

2) Can you download a program which will run on my pc (windows xp) and will allow me to control where files are placed on the scroll?

3) I want to put photos/music on the scroll, where do I need to create the folders for these? Internal or external memory? and do I simply call then Music and Photos and will the built in programs read from these folders?

4) I work on the road all week as a trucker, we have an internet dongle thingy that we used when we moved house, is there a way that the scroll will connect to it so that I can have an internet connection all the time?

5) I've downloaded Microsoft Office file viewers and a Microsoft Money program viewer so far, where does the Scroll look for the files to open?

Seems like I have loads to learn and patience isn't really my thing but I need to get my Scroll up and running instead of just looking at it on my desk.

Any help, dumbed down instructions, links to programs, and pointers in the right direction is much appreiciated.

Mark.

1.) Its XP, maybe it is installing the USB driver, or can not install it for the scrolls drives, do you have the XP machine connected to the net while you mount it ? and Are you plugging the USB port into the correct scroll port ?

2.) Mounting the drives is about the best control you can get other than Samba app which is a wireless networking app for between the scroll and the PC but you will still have the same flexability - also you can only install apps to one location, but you can store them on both internal and sdcard in which ever folders you create

3.) SDCard or Internal Storage drive which is called /nand

4.) Not really unless you have a MiFi thing that can broadcast the 3G signal as an Access Point the scroll can wirelessly connect to, the scroll has poor driver support for any device really, flash drives seem to work though

5.) Unsure what you mean exactly, Once you have install the office viewer app, there should be a menu within that program to seach out your documents etc, and you can store them again either on internal memory or SDCard

Thanks for your reply and help.

1/2) I had it connected to the internet and the wizard appeared to ask if I wanted to search for drivers, I selected yes but it couldn't find any. I've got it connected to the girlfriends laptop at the moment which is windows vista and it's running fine and transferring files quickly with no problems. I'm using the same usb cable and connecting it to the same slot on the tablet. Is there any downloadable drivers for XP that could fix the problem my pc seems to be having?

3) I don't have a folder called /nand, I'm assuming it would be on the first layer of folder and not inside another folder? I've had a search for it but can't find it.

5) I'm playing around with folders etc at the moment to see which works the best. I'm guessing memory card is safer incase the scroll goes wrong and I have to reset it back to factory settings?

Thanks again for your help.

It should install it as a "Mass storage device" if you plug it in, mount the scroll, then manually find your way through the wizard until it shows a list of drivers, uncheck the "Show Compatible hardware" box so it shows them all, then look for "USB Composite Device" as in the screenshot, complete the install ignoring any errors and fingers crossed, once it is detected as that, it should install it as a Mass storage device and actually mount.

/nand is not a folder really although it is shown as one in file manager apps, /nand is the Internal Storage that you also have the choice to mount along with the sdcard when you pull down the top toolbar on the scroll, it should be around 1.35Gb once mounted.

Yes its best to keep things on the sdcard for now really, until you get the hang of things anyway, then you can start making things more permanent
