Android is linux... its basicaly just a linux distro like ubuntu/fedora/red hat/whatever
a Full on desktop OS like ubuntu will take longer to boot, something like tinycor on teh other hand will be faster

The advantage comes in being able to use a wider range of hardware peripherals via the usb and having more control over what is in your install (bluetooth, etc)

I would imagine so, been a while since I built a distro ;)

Hmmm. Just found this:

http://android.galoula.com/en/LinuxInstall/

It doesn't work (yes, I tried it), and looks as dodgy as hell, but it might be a good starting point.

Yes because I can't get it to do a thing once it's had lunch ;)

HAHAHA! Nice one Jimmy, had to actually read that one twice but actually laughed out loud once I read it properly!

Don't you just love typo's, and better still, poor translations of chinese to english - my best one is Gigabyte motherboard CD's "Computer is going for shutdown NOW!" LOL!

Right, back to topic, I've seen a few distros that have ARM support, I'm planning to root and slim my tablet down when I'm back in London (want to take a full backup first so I can roll back afterwards if necessary!) after that, I'll see how much work it'll take to point the bootstrap to grub on a SD card with a loopback to android (poor man's dualboot). at least that way it'll make it easier to change the menu.lst file to test different distros without actually making the scroll unusable in the meantime.

Also want to sort the lack of support for Ad-Hoc wifi networks, I've found an app for my phone which will create a "mifi router" but unfortunately due to a lack of support for ad-hoc networks, it won't show the network on my tablet :( I've found a method, so will try once I've rooted and once successful I'll post a how-to!

im cautious about this, iv been told that although it looks it, it ISN'T optimized for touch screen, god knows how many bugs will be present. think ill wait a while before i give this a shot.
