Not so sure you're correct on that Piers - this gets wierd - as a test I uninstalled flash altogether, rebooted and tried to watch TVcatchup using their current beta app. Hey presto it still works and is still rock solid.

So what are they doing? if they are transcoding the stream at their end like Skyfire do then they have a much better set up than they have at Skyfire. I still suspect HTML5 because I am getting such a good performance - unless due to the app still being in beta, perhaps they have not many users and oodles of bandwidth to transcode the stream thus eliminating the need for Flash at my end.

Whats the betting that once the app is out of beta this turns into a subscription service?

That's odd - I did the same test and it didn't work :P which I why I thought it was still flash based. As far as subscriptions go - they won't. They are not legally allowed to due to the license restrictions put in force by the BBC and ITV (I am quite active on the TVC forums). They might increase the adverts shown while using the app, however I doubt that as well.

@Piers: The mystery deepens - just to ascertain comparisons - I am using a Scroll Excel with Suggsy's 4.0.4 Rom and I get Rock solid TV Catchup without Flash installed.

What exactly are you doing the same tests on - OS version - and Tab model?

Also bearing in mind I am using the Beta app not a browser.

I have tested on the Essential (suggsys build) and Extreme (slatedroid build) with and without Flash - doesn't seem to work without flash on both of them.

Android 4.0.4

That's just wierd - I promise you I can unistall Flash, reboot and still get a perfect TVcatchup using their latest beta app.
Still I'm not going to lose any sleep over it I guess having inheritted FF's Excel it just goes to show how special it is.

Anyone else with an Excel reading this want to try it on yours and let us know? :)

EDIT This link is for a sort of review for the app and was written 9th March this year if anyone wants to read about it: http://www.androiduknewsetc.com/2012/03 ... droid-app/

Have you tried uninstalling Flash and then see if it still works ? easy enough to reinstall Flash again afterwards. :)
