Apps for remotely stored media

I've got all my music, photos and videos stored on a Buffalo Linkstation Pro, all working nicely with my Linux-based laptop. Ideally I'd like to access and add to that from my Scroll - flip through photos, play music and videos.

I’ve experimented a little with apps that can play music remotely including LinkPlayer Lite and UPnPlay but frankly what you gain in remote access you lose big time in functional & attractive UI.

Can anyone recommend apps?

How are teh files shared? (I dont have a linkstation) If its a samba sahre there are apps like SambaExplorer that should let your browse the Filesystem.
UPnPlay is meant to be decent but I have never tired it out myself I know playing back videos miht be a pain as you will have to make sure android has the required codec for each file (and not just the container)

I use windows/samba shares and ES File Explorer to access those shares and play media.

Even works OK playing AVI films out through the HDMI, but wireless is a bit slow, so a dedicated usb drive on the host usb port would be better.

Thanks, I've found UPnPlay a bit unreliable, and the problem is that the UI sucks when compared to all the good music players out there.

The same goes for Astro/ES file managers... they work fine, but again their UI isn't quite as nice... click-button arrows to move through instead of swiping the finger, etc.

They'll do for now, but I live in hope of either the good music/picture/etc. apps supporting remote files, or the remote file apps getting nicer UIs!

Just posted this elsewhere but might be more fitting here.

I'm loving my scroll so much. I have a cyclone MKV media player and am able to access all my movies on my scroll and vica versa with viewing movies stored on my scroll on my media player (hope that makes sense).

I'm using imediashare to send videos to my media player via UPNP from the scroll which is so easy to use. Great for seeing all your photos etc on the TV along with Youtube etc as well.

Then when I want to watch movies from the media player on the scroll i'm using File Expert and using the Samba funtction. File expert asks you to open the .avi (or chosen file type) in a browser (I use Miren) and then Miren picks up on the file type and automatically sends it to rock player lite.

Some times there is slow down or sound sync issues but if the file type is converted just right it works soo well.

Now I have all my movies on any TV in the house thanks to the HDMI out and if needs be I can do the same on my Hero!

If its just streaming your music Audiogalaxy is a top free app.
I no longer hold any of my 15GB of music on any of my mobile devices Scroll Tablet or HTC Desire I just stream them. Artist. Album. Playlists. Genere. Are all selectable.

Sent from my Scroll Tablet using Tapatalk
