When we have a working and tested version of clockworkmod recovery you can flash that and then flash a custom rom.
Before that you can use programs like root explorer or root manager to remove pre-installed apps that you don't want :D A lot of users never touch root apps but do it anyway

Ah cool, so this is the first step towards 2.2 or 2.3 being flashed at some point

Yea Im sure there are a few apps pre-installed I wont use, and with only 2GB it might come in handy to remove them

did you use the instructions on this post to perm root your scroll? did it work first time?

was thinking of having a go myself

get parts of the full market! and upgrade to android 2.2 once there is a guide, and many other usefull things

Use the z4root method (links on the forum) make sure you're connected to AC power tap the button on the app then sec's later you're rooted.
Then get a root explorer delete all the telephone rubbish and nearly double your battery life.

Is this a perm root?

I was thinking of trying Visionary perm root, just to see if that works, but am fearful of the brick.

Can you list which files are the "telephone rubbish" and are safe to delete plz ?

the z4root worked first time i did it, i plugged it into AC and pressed root - 2 mins later it had rooted and everything running fine!
