Feel like such a noob asking all these questions, Ive been all Windows for the past 15+ years, kinda nice to not know anything and have to learn from scratch

It's fine - ask away - i am learning android from scratch too - (learnt a lot in the last 10 days) with your windows experience perhaps you can help me to confirm a hack i have done to the android_winusb.inf file??? :)

I have learned a lot too, Ive tinkered with Linux for a while, but never had anyone to teach me anything so dont know a lot, I can have a look at the driver.inf if you like, not sure I will be any help, never made a driver before, although there have been times I wished I could.

I was trying for 2 hours to get rid of the old youtube app without success. I deleted references to it in system/apps, in data/data and finally,in frustration, I deleted the entire contents of data/dalvik-cache, and still when I try to instal the newer version it says "replacing a previous version" and installation fails. Grr! There must be another reference to it somewhere - if someone can help I'll be extremely grateful Image

i found that i had to delete the old youtube.apk (as well as the other files you have already removed) then reboot and changed the name of the new app from signed_youtube.apk to youtube.apk, put it into system/app then install -

Thanks, charlie. The one thing I didn't do was rename the new apk. I also usually instal from /nand so maybe that makes a difference too. Will try tonight.

It would be quite handy to have a thread dedicated to the procedure for getting rid completely of stock apps.

Another hour wasted. Thought I'd removed all traces of the old youtube app but the new one still wouldn't install, kept saying "replacing previous version" etc. Almost tearing hair out by now Image

Finally I went to <settings-applications-manage applications> and found an entry still present for the old youtube app. Everything was showing zero bytes as it wasn't actually present, but it still let me uninstall the phantom app. Then, the new one finally installed & works great. It was the obvious place to check with hindsight Image

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else is being as stupid as me...

it took me ages to sort it too - think it took 6 hours in the end - all traces (which as you know) of the youtube files need to be gone b4 u can put the new one on, they are dam hard to find too.

the new version is defo better. :)
