First steps with Firmware 1.01?

Just switched on my new Scroll for the first time, and found it to have (the dreaded??) Firmware v1.01.
This being the case, is there a 'recommended way' to set things up initially, since (if I understand correctly) this firmware version will soon render my MarketPlace unusable..??
I'm a complete noob to Android, so would appreciate any advice!

Download anything you know you want while the market is working, look through the forums for recommended software that takes your fancy to try out.
Some of the alternative markets link to the Android market so are of little use once the market stops working but there are alternative that don't and are already linked to in the forums, you just have to try them. A bit of patience is required to find the right ones for you.
You can still get most of the software you want once it stops, it's just not as straight forward.

I have firmware 1.01 and dont have any trouble with the market. Im able to get free or pay ones without any problems? I do have occasional problems with upside down apps but they really are occasional. I dont see any other probs with it? What other problems are there?

Mine's exactly the same.
Strange that some 1.01s are ok and others not.
