AdAway is an open source ad blocker for Android

I don't know if many have tried this or know about it.
I discovered it today and decided to give it a try.
It needs root and Super User permission and then downloads software to merge your apps and stop adds appearing in them..

I will trial it and report back.
Be nice to hear from others who are using this app.

First impressions are WOW I can watch tvcatchup without any adverts - it really does seem to work. :D
If it isn't broken then don't try to fix it!

I used to use AdFree Android - I think they all work the same way, by replacing your "hosts" file by one that points all ad site lookups to a null.

Quite a simple approach but damned effective, the only downside is the need to process a large hosts file for every DNS request. I'm stuffed at the moment on this front as my Extreme/Elite replacement isn't a rooted device and as it's not Alwinner based finding (and trusting) rooting instructions is somewhat difficult.
