Dub77:
The restore you do via itunes is very similar, but the one I use is more complex. For example, Itunes will not allow you to replace the bootloader on an iphone, it will recover it but if the bootloader is corrupt youll get an error. I can reflash it including the bootloader.
For me to do the same with a samsung device I have to contact a level 5 samsung tech and get him/her to authorise it on the server. I have to give them the imei and loads of other info before the system will allow it. A normal engineer ( level 3) has no access to a samsung tech, they can only do a basic reflash and if the bootloader has been played with the service software will refuse it (normally because the imei hash has been corrupted by a bad bootloader). Im a level 4 engineer but still have to seek authorisation from them to do it, its a bloody nuisance.

Sure I can if you need me to.....

However, if you send it in for service they will reflash it anyway (if they do the job right). In what way is the home button acting up? wrong function or itermittant no function ( the former is a software issue, the latter mechanical which will result in a new unit)

ok, book it in there and tell them its intermittant, if the store eejit ( sorry I mean apple sales colleague) gets funny, insist that it is intermittant and tell them to send it to the service centre.
Just in case, you havent had it near water, have you? iphones have moisture detectors in them, if they turn pink they wont repair it under warranty.

Dave no not been near water I've checked the sensors they are still White. Apple have slightly relaxed their policy on repair if the water sensors are slighty off colour. From what I read it's a discretion thing. If the phone shows no obvious signs of water damage then the apple eejit can continue with the claim.

It is discretionary, youre correct, there are also sensors on the main board which can be checked as some people have even tried to "tippex" the sensors white again! Twits.....

Anyhow, this is the way I apply it.... if the sensors are slightly coloured and I can find no evidence of ESD/Water damage (green crap on the board anywhere) then I allow it under warranty. Some engineers will apply different rules dependant on the customers attitude, I never have, I treat all customers the same way (tries to lie convincingly!). All manufacturers now use moisture detect pads. Apple store staff are not generally technically trained to the same degree as engineers, in fact as far as I know, no store staff can fail to book a repair due to evident water damage, it has to be sent to people like me for assessment.

SO Just use selotape for cost-efficient moisture detectors probably why the entire mobo is covered in the stuff... looks like my 6 year old has wrapped it for them ;)
