Samsung Galaxy S / Apollo How To Use Your Own Message Tone

Postby Fonefixer » April 5th, 2011, 4:09 am

One of the annoying features of these handsets is that owners are apparently unable to use their own message tone, it looks like you only have a restricted choice.

Actually, you dont - here's how to use whatever message tone you want:

Unlock your screen and click on "appllications" then "my files"
Click on "home"
Look for a folder called "media", in there should be a folder called "audio", in there should be a folder called "notifications".
If the media folder is not there create it - then create the two sub-folders named exactly as above (case sensitive) so the structure should be media/audio/notifications.
Now you have found/created the required folders place any mp3 file you want for a message tone in the "notifications" folder.

To select the file as your message tone proceed as follows:
From the home screen click on "Messaging"
Click the "menu" hard button then "settings"
Scroll down to "Notification settings" then "select ringtone"
In that list you should now see the name of your required message tone mp3 file - select it (if its not there you havent got the directory structure correct or the file is in the wrong folder).

Done - Happy messaging!

Cheers FF - Will try that later - I have not got round to changing the tones on the Apollo yet - This will save me a lot of head scratching :)

The normal ringtone is easy enough.... but the message one is not obvious as to how to change it.
