erm sum light please?

Postby chisme » April 9th, 2011, 9:31 am

ok so i been checking this forum for about 3 weeks now since i got my scroll, (my entry into the world of android) :D
ive posted my first little "guide" about how to use the 4shared app to get the best apk and games, in the guides section.

so now im viewing all this shizz nizz lol about rooting and i know im edging closer and closer,

so what i wanna know is , besides being able to change my bootup screen like that guy in the other topic did, what other benefits of rooting my scroll? people say you can run custom roms.,....ok so what are they for the scroll? and what do they do? srry if im being totally noob.

i am allready using the airplane mode app to stop cell-standby, so is there any point in me rooting it anyway? :?:

also what are the pitfalls of rooting? i see in other posts it voids your warranty (expected) but also stops you installing updates from storage options? will there be any? will i need them?

you can remove any of the stock apps with root.
you can do build.prop mods.
you can edit anything you want (literally)
there are not really any custom roms for the scroll yet there is a bored up 2.2 that probably wont get much better until storage options release some of the files needed to do so.

Also use apps that require root for you to be able to use them.

Root just gives you total control over the OS - More power than 'Admin' rights on Windows - You can do great things when you have root, but also bad things like "delete the OS while it's running' - and if you did the latter, on reboot, you would not have a working device, and you would need to install/re-flash the device if it was possible to do so, if not then you have a 'brick'.
