Tablo 9.7" Tablet with ICS to be Launched Soon

Postby Charlie » March 11th, 2012, 8:46 pm

Hi guys,

Just found out that there is a new 9.7" Tablet with ICS on its way, (when I don't know, but I would guess early April) called the "Tablo", sound familiar? It's from the same people that brought out the 7" Tablo with GB.

I would guess it would be very much like the Scroll 9.7" (not sure tho') but the 7" Tablo was very similar to the 7" Excel and vice versa.

Open for discussion :)

@ charlie

I wonder if they will also provide the firmware to the Tablo crowd like they did for Tablo/Excel ? :)

@TC - I hope they do :)

Also, just found out that it seems their new tab comes with a IPS screen (not sure if the Extreme does or does not)

P.S.

In case people don't know what IPS is, here is some details:-
IPS - in-plane switching.... the liquid crystals are aligned horizontally instead of on an angle. This process greatly increases vertical viewing angles. When coupled with the high brightness and contrast of the glare-type displays, colour reproduction is almost perfect.

According to the Ebuyer specs, it's got a '9.7“ IPS Capacitive Multi-touch' screen... but will you be buying one?

Surely, SO should be providing them to the Mods for free... after all, you're doing much of the support work they'd otherwise be doing!

Just another thought, the Tablo 7" was market compatible where-as the Excel isn't - so if the new 9.7" Tablo has full market and IPS screen then I certainly won't be looking at SO any more! :?

EDIT: I just saw on the SO Facebook pages that the Extreme doesn't work with Skype - does anyone know if the new 9.7" Tablo will? ;)

... and most certainly @suggsy89 too (if it was up to me!).

Although, with all the excellent work you're doing, I'm not sure if SO would regard you as a friend or foe... Stealing their thunder by delivering ICS to the masses before the Extreme comes out, will probably get you taken off their Chrismas card list!

If SO were clever (and I'm sure they are), they could have made arrangements (and told us it was coming) to have ICS available for the Excel, but only month or longer after the Extreme launched... that would probably have stopped 90% of ICS upgraders in their tracks and made them wait for the official version... leaving the way clear for the Extreme to be the flagship ICS device for a while at least.

I'm not going to go off topic here, but I'm in the middle of a discussion with Paul at SO about the installation of software invalidating the SO warranty... more on this when I've got news (not looking good), maybe I'll start a new thread.

Well like I said to Mitre in a PM, if SO cant deliver the goods, we as a team can :D Im probably there enemy now.
Although, i havnt seen them online here recently, they havnt commented on it.

Changing the software would not invalidate the warranty if it was a hardware issue, full stop.
Beside we can always go back to stock ;)

Not so, according to Paul at SO... here's what he said to me about ClockWorkMod today: 'Unfortunately any installation of this software will invalidate your warranty in its entirety. The software and hardware are not mutually exclusive.'

I'm not going to start a new thread on this, but it raises an issue on SO's definition of warranty breaking software installs. I would like to 'explore' the issue with Paul if he does another 'Ask Paul / SO Q&E' session as he suggested.
